The development of control algorithms for power converters

Switch-mode power supplies can be found on a large scale of applications, starting from few mW in the management circuits of power chip to hundreds of kW in the power systems. All these applications need in a steady state and dynamic regime a stable power on a large scale of operating conditions. A digital or analog controller closes the feedback loop and actively controls the switching states of the semiconductors switches for obtaining system stability.

The main objectives achieved by the theses are:

  • Analog control methods study in order to be able to implement discrete control methods based on them.
  • Conversion methods analyze of analog control into digital domain.
  • Implementation of digital controllers using linear and nonlinear control methods exemplified for a buck converter.
  • Dithering method implementation
  • Building a block which contains a PFC boost converter and a LLC resonant converter digitally controlled.
  • Implementation of a method for determining the passive buck circuit components without using frequency analyzing techniques or inserting signals in the feedback loop which can generate oscillations.
